Meet Ratana – Baan Handicrafts
In Thailand, when girls work in bars, the assumption is that they are also prostitutes. Ratana(not her real name) was one such girl. She contracted AIDS, and almost died. She was taken into a local orphanage, where it was expected she would die soon after. She was loved and cared for and as a result, her whole health improved to the point where she could support herself again. As she needed an alternative income, Baan Handicrafts were approached, so she was able to work for them, and while she comes and goes, her quality of life has immensely improved. |
