Kamay Krafts is a cooperative of over 300 women who work together in handicraft production and micro-finance ventures. The profits are pooled and distributed according to the co-operative structure. The 85 mothers who produce the unique handicraft products take recycled materials and turn it into funky bags, purses, wallets, belts and homewares. The remaining 215 women are involved in a micro-finance enterprise that is run by the mothers and for the mothers and provides an opportunity to break the chains of poverty and loan sharks.
Kamay Krafts’ approach is ethical, environmentally sustainable and carries the underlying ethics of the founding partner organisation ‘Servants of the Urban Poor’. Kamay Krafts original vision has been to see lives and communities transformed. Each employment opportunity can positively affect the lives of at least 5 other people by income generation.
