NEWS from the Empowering the Poor team...
You will all be familiar with the stunning ranges that have been available throughout the year as part of the Empowering the Poor range. Amongst the major suppliers, Easter Morning, based in The Philippines have continued to develop their skills in producing bags and cushions that are durable and beautifully screen printed. Kamay Kraft, also based in The Philippines have taken their work to a new level in producing a wonderful range of makeup bags and pencil cases that add to their established business. Noah’s Ark, India continues to expand and develop their range of products, we have loved their unique range of journals that are beautifully designed and screen printed.
The products developed by each organisation have seamlessly blended together; bringing their unique elements together we were able to form newly designed collections that create a story presenting beautifully within the gift market here in Australia and New Zealand. It has been a source of great delight that they have been so highly sought after.
Joanne Sterland, who has worked at Care & Share in the advertising department for the last four years, has once again put her design skills to work developing a series of new ranges. From a lovely Japanese inspired selection titled the Signature range, to the Revolutionary’s range - a funky denim range with inspirational quotes.
Having received fantastic feedback and wonderful opportunities, we are looking forward to the launch of the NEW range in 2012.
The Empowering the Poor organisations have excelled in developing products that prove quality hand made, fair trade products have a place within the gift market.
We are looking forward to the coming year and are excited about the new possibilities and developments. Wishing you all the very best for a wonderful Christmas and very happy new year!

* Maria's trip to The Philippines - April 2011
It has been a wonderful privilege to take some time in April to visit the three organizations that Care and Share works with in The Philippines. While we can learn so much via email and phone, often there is so much more that can be understood from actually being there!
It has been a joy to further develop relationships with long standing suppliers, and hear their heart for the work and community they work with in a whole new way. Aside from long conversations, it was a joy to ‘walk a mile in their shoes’, and see how different their lives are to ours, as well as walking the streets that are home to them, and seeing their challenges and opportunities from their perspectives.
What a difference it makes to now know the person who has made the products that we buy - a unique privilege in an era when communities are becoming much more distant from each other.
